Light, Air, Stone, And Fire.
Then God blessed them and said,
"Be fruitful and multiply. Fill the earth and govern it. Reign over the fish in the seas,
the birds in the sky, and all the animals that scurry along the ground."
Genesis 1:28 (NLT)
When God delegated some of his authority to the human race, he expected us to take
responsibility for the environment and the other creatures that share our earth.
God was careful in how he made this earth. We must not be careless in how we care for it.
Timeless Design Builders believes that Building Green is when one capitalizes on the
upmost important natural resources in our environment, Light, Air, Stone, and Fire.
Light: Natural daylight should reach at least 75% of the home’s interior.
Building Design (windows, etc.) and lot orientation can increase exposure and reduce lighting requirements.
Natural (trees) and other shading devices should be strategically used to block the hot summer sun.
Air: The home should be oriented on the site to take advantage of any prevailing breezes.
A non-toxic insulation, derived from materials like soybean or cotton, with a high R (heat resistance)
factor in a home’s walls and roof will help prevent expensive air leakage.
Energy-efficient lighting, heating, cooling, and water-heating systems
are essential and all appliances require ENERGY STAR® ratings.
Stone: Homes must be constructed or renovated with healthy, non-toxic building materials
and furnishings. Materials would ideally be salvaged, recycled, organic, and non-toxic.
Fire: Dual-glaze windows reduce heat gain in summer and heat loss during cold winter months.
The roof should be a light-colored, heat-reflecting Energy Star roof.
